It’s no surprise to hear that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal have found another cause to latch on to. The Mexican besties have always been politically active and are now lending their full support to the decriminalization of marijuana.

Diego and Gael recently signed a petition that aims to reduce the sentences of Mexicans incarcerated for marijuana-related offenses. They believe that eliminating these types of crimes will ultimately make the country a safer place.
“Criminalization increases the street price of drugs,” the petition states. “Decriminalization would reduce that income. It would be a step in the right direction.”
For the record, Luna and Garcia Bernal are not alone in their plight. Several other Mexican luminaries are supporting the initiative, including writer Angeles Mastretta, attorney Fernando Gomez Mont and former Health Secretary Julio Frenk.
